Welcome to the Bee & Bear Blog

May 28, 2025

We’d like to introduce ourselves—again. If you’ve visited our website before, you’ve likely read a little bit about who we are and how the lodge came to be, but we wanted to share more about our story, our visions for the future, and what you can expect from us here on the blog.

Our family’s roots run deep across this landscape—we did not homestead here, but we have come to this place for over a century in search of a life well lived—one full of meaning, wonder, joy, curiosity, shared experiences, and purpose. We grew up in the wide-open spaces of southern Alberta, learning to read the seasons, respect the land, and appreciate the stories it holds. That appreciation has turned into a lifelong love for sharing, and the lodge has given us the perfect opportunity to share this landscape we love, while also preserving a sense of privacy for our family and the working ranch. We're still finding the right rhythm between the two—where guests and guides can connect with the ranch in intentional ways, without disrupting the daily routines and work. Our stewardship of this land has always been at the heart of what we do, and that remains true as we welcome others into the experience.

Our dream for the lodge is to create a space where people can come to reconnect—with nature, with themselves, and with each other. Whether that means an intimate elopement, a restorative retreat, an adventure-filled getaway, or simply a quiet escape, we want every guest to leave feeling a little more grounded and a little more inspired. We’re always dreaming up new ways to make this experience richer, from offering nourishing meals sourced as locally as possible to creating unique experiences that honor the land and its history.

And because sharing is at the heart of who we are, we’re excited to bring that to life here on the blog. Each of us—Lucy, Claren, Emma, and Sophie—will take turns writing, sharing different perspectives, stories, and insights along the way. Some posts will be about what’s happening at the lodge, some about the trials and tribulations at the ranch, and others about the things we’re passionate about, from sustainable living to travel to the little joys of morning coffee in the garden.

We hope you’ll join us on this journey, and maybe even find a bit of your own story reflected in ours.
